Apprentice Assembly Worker

We have an apprenticeship opportunity available for someone who enjoys building electronic and mechanical devices, to join our product department.

Working with the technical and engineering staff you will be tasked with all aspects of assembling specialized, high value test equipment. This will include hand-soldering surface-mount electronic components onto circuit boards.

What will the apprentice be doing?

  • Assemble PCBs and finished products according to assembly instructions
  • Monitor and maintain production stock levels using a database
  • Package completed products & kits ready for shipping
  • PAT test and register new equipment
  • Test subassemblies and final products for correct functioning
  • Keeping your work area clean, tidy and organised

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

A flexible model of delivery will be undertaken based on the employer’s needs.  Examples include attendance at York College two days per week for two years; one day per week for four years; attending college full-time in year one followed by day release in year two, followed by being fully workplace-based for the remainder of the apprenticeship.

Qualifications achieved at the end of the apprenticeship are EAL level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering and BTEC level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

On successful completion, it is expected that the candidate will be offered a full-time position.

For the right candidate, there may be the option of further study towards HNC and progression to Technician.
